A fiber media converter is a networking device that bridges two different physical media types — typically a copper Ethernet cable (RJ-45) and a fiber optic cable. It converts the electrical signal used by copper-based Ethernet into the light-based signal required for fiber optic transmission, and vice versa.
Media converters are used to extend network reach beyond the 100-meter limit of copper Ethernet cable, connect legacy copper equipment to a fiber backbone, or link two network segments running different cable types.
Networx fiber media converters include a 3-year warranty. The FR-2U14 media converter chassis carries a lifetime warranty.
A media converter chassis is a rack-mounted enclosure that houses multiple media converter modules in a single unit, with centralized power management. Instead of using individual power adapters for each standalone converter, all installed modules share the chassis power supply.
The Networx FR-2U14 supports up to 14 hot-swappable modules in a 2U 19-inch rack enclosure. Modules can be mixed across different fiber types and distances within the same chassis.
