The Media Converter complies with IEEE 802.3z, IEEE 802.3AB Standards. It is designed to convert data signal between 10/100/1000Base-T and 1000Base Fiber Ethernet. It supports 10/100/1000Base-T and 1000Base Fiber optic applications. The data signal converted by such high performance media converter can be transmitted up to 550 meters maximum over multimode fiber and up to 80 kilometers over singlemode fiber.

The Converter is equipped with two fiber optic connector ports (One for transmitting-TX and another for receiving-RX) and one RJ-45 Jack and one external power supply receptacle. Six LED indicators are built-in for easy diagnosing and monitoring the status of power, Unshielded Twisted Paired (UTP) Link, UTP Activity, Fiber Link, Fiber Activity, Full duplex and data rates. It can be configured automatically for Full Duplex or Half Duplex operation.

It is compact, cost-effective, low dissipative, high reliable and stable. It can be used in standalone applications, or Rack-Mounted applications where multiple media converters can be inserted into a rack-mount chassis (up to 16 units), and allowing all the converters to be powered by a single internal power supply.

Does this open SFP slot media converter require a specific fiber type?

No — the fiber type is determined entirely by the SFP module you install. The FT-1000-MC accepts standard 1000Base SFP transceivers, which are available for multimode fiber (up to 550m with 850nm SFP), singlemode at 1310nm (up to 20km), or singlemode at 1550nm (up to 80km). Purchase the appropriate SFP module separately based on your installed fiber type and required distance.

What SFP modules are compatible with the FT-1000-MC open SFP slot media converter?

The FT-1000-MC accepts standard 1000Base SFP transceivers. Compatible SFP types include:

  • 1000Base-SX (850nm) — up to 550m over multimode fiber
  • 1000Base-LX (1310nm) — up to 20km over singlemode fiber
  • 1000Base-ZX (1550nm) — up to 80km over singlemode fiber

SFP modules are sold separately. The fiber type and maximum transmission distance are determined entirely by the SFP module installed.

Does the FT-1000-MC open SFP slot media converter include an SFP transceiver?

No. The FT-1000-MC is sold without an SFP module. A compatible 1000Base SFP transceiver must be purchased and installed separately, selected based on your installed fiber type (multimode or singlemode) and required transmission distance.

Does this media converter use an LC fiber connector?

Yes. This media converter features an LC fiber optic port. LC connectors use a compact push-pull locking mechanism and are the most common fiber connector type in modern data center and enterprise networking environments. An LC fiber patch cable is required to connect this unit to your fiber infrastructure.
